About the Band
Please welcome our newest band member, Joe Navetta on bass! Big thanks to our friend and fellow musician, Ted Edwards, for his talent and smooth bass. Ted did us a great favor by playing with us as we got started as a four-piece band, along with playing with local Flashbak, who he’s been with for many years. We thank you, Ted!
We are a genre-bending band rooted in the blues. Best described as a diverse Blues-Rock-Americana 4-piece band, we feature sizzling electric guitar licks, smooth electric bass, responsive and scintillating drums, and wide-ranging, sultry vocals.
We do many well-known songs to draw our audiences in, as well as many lesser-known, oftentimes contemporary songs that many people have never heard. We do our music this way to captivate our audience while allowing them to get to know us at the same time. Our set lists are, well… tasty! And, it has been noted many times by those in our audience that we are visibly having fun doing what we love — that is, playing music!
We have been playing out for the past few years here in Roseburg, starting as a duo and now a four-piece band.
We’ve played at Melrose Vineyards in Roseburg, the Southern Oregon Blues Festival in Myrtle Creek, Two-Shy Brewery in Roseburg, Lookingglass Brewery in Winston, Backside Brewery in Sutherlin, The Oakland Tavern and Turkey Hall (both in Oakland), Sunnyside Theatre in Roseburg, The Grand Victorian Theatre in Myrtle Creek, Pioneer Days in Canyonville, and more.
We were thrilled to have contracted with Spire Mountain Cellars in Oakland to play once a month in 2023 as their house band.
And, we had the honor of being invited as the first-ever band to play during the “mingling hour” at Mercy Foundation’s 50th annual fundraiser gala and Festival of Trees at the convention center at Seven Feathers Casino and Resort on December 2, 2023. What a great way to close out a busy and fun-filled year!
We’d love to hear from you as we head into the new year and are booking gigs!
It all started on the Oregon coast in a campground, when Gregg and Sue began playing and singing some songs in their campsite. Soon, other campers started to come by, often pulling up a camp chair (and a cocktail) to listen and hang out. It was then they thought, “Hey, maybe we could play out?”
Not long after forming Second Chance Band as a duo playing at local Roseburg venues, Gregg and Sue met Stephanie (AJ) LaFleur at her shop, Oregon Serigraphics, to inquire about having some band T-shirts made. Little did they know Stephanie was an accomplished drummer who’d been on sabbatical from playing for a few years as her shop grew. Then they met Ted Edwards, who works at Absolute Sound of Music and who is an accomplished bass player (sings good harmony, too!). Gregg and Sue’s duo soon became a local, four-piece blues band. The rest is history!
And these days, they’re playing more often than they’d originally envisioned. “Our band shares a wonderful chemistry among all of our players, and we have a ball at our gigs, often hearing things like, ‘It looks like you guys are having fun, which makes us have fun, too!’” Although the band rehearses weekly and also practices individually, they don’t take themselves too seriously. That would take all the fun out of it!
“We enjoy playing recognizable songs taken from the genres of blues, rock, and Americana, as well songs from artists in these genres most people have never heard of. We love to see people dance and are always striving to learn new, exciting material to bring to our audiences.
What do we want for the future? To continue to bring good, live music to Roseburg and its surrounding areas. We’ve come a long way, with lots more ahead. And we’ve met so many lovely fellow musicians and friends along the way, making it all worthwhile! Having fun doing what we like to do, and coming together as a community of friends who share the same excitement? What more could we ask for?”
We’d love to bring our passion for music to your next event.
Drop us a line and let’s get started!
